I always wanted to be a mother. I thought it would be just like looking after my younger siblings when I was a child - easy.
Boy, was I in for a shock.
In 1999, after a traumatic birth, I was running on minimal sleep and trying to be the perfect mother I’d always imagined myself to be. I was diagnosed with post natal depression when my eldest son was eight weeks old.
Though I loved my little boy dearly, I was exhausted and anxious. I felt like I had lost myself.
I am now grateful for my experience of PND because it set me on a healing path of self discovery.
Through the support of a PND group, counselling and coaching, I realised that I had the power to direct my thoughts and that there was no rule that said I had to listen to the old ‘should’ messages that society throws at new mothers.
I began to seek out supportive friends, I established a meditation practice and experimented with finding activities that nurtured my soul..
My relationships began to blossom.
Then my son had his first public tantrum at 18 months. I felt flooded with shame, thinking that only ‘bad’ mums’ kids had meltdowns.
I began to explore different ways I could positively manage the challenges of toddlerdom, and ways I could influence my feelings around these meltdowns. I began reading parenting books and attending workshops to discover creative solutions to ever-arising parenting challenges.
Since then, we have welcomed another daughter and twin boys into our family. Though they are no longer toddlers, I am still learning and growing with them and approaching parenting challenges with the very skills I teach.
I have trained in Mindfulness, Coaching, ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Training) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and various Parenting Programs to improve my own parenting / life and I love supporting parents to improve their parenting / life.
Over my years of coaching parents and facilitating workshops for children, parents and educators, I have fine-tuned a collection of positive tools to enhance the experience of navigating life with children.
My passion is for sharing this knowledge and watching parents and children blossom with deep resilience and wellbeing.
